GS1 Hong Kong announced Wednesday winners of this year's Hong Kong RFID Awards.
Co-organized by the Hong Kong R&D Centre for Logistics and Supply Chain Management Enabling Technologies (LSCM) and the Hong Kong Science & Technology Parks Corporation (HKSTP), the Hong Kong RFID Awards 2009 winners included industry professionals, as well as university undergraduates and postgraduates, said GS1 Hong Kong.
“Innovative and effective deployment of technology is one of the most critical factors for business success in today's increasingly interconnected global business environment. The Hong Kong RFID Awards, which we launched last year, was very well received by the industry, and competition is even keener in its second year,” said Anna Lin, chief executive of GS1 Hong Kong.
The Kowloon Motor Bus took the Gold Award in the Best EPC/RFID Implementation category for its Traffic Operations Management System, which is aimed at using RFID to improve depot productivity, optimize resource utilization, and improve transparency and fairness in duty allocation, said GS1 Hong Kong.
The Gold Award for the Most Innovative Use of EPC / RFID went to Nuance Watson HK for its "Mobile Discovery" RFID Display Station, GS1 Hong Kong noted.
Used in “Sound & Vision - Enriching Life” stores at Hong Kong International Airport, this interactive station enables customers to instantly view on screen the complete product details, promotional information and product trailers, said GS1 Hong Kong, adding that people can get recommendations on matching mobile phone accessories and compare up to three different models simply by scanning the RFID labels.
The Most Innovative EPC/RFID Product Gold Award was won by Megabyte for its compact and easy to use and maintain Megascan-M1 RFID Reader, said GS1 Hong Kong. The scanners can run in power-over-Ethernet mode to minimize energy consumption, said GS1 Hong Kong, adding that multiple Megascan readers can be connected via a local area network to form an RFID system if more than 32 ports are needed, GS1 Hong Kong added.
All the winners of the Hong Kong RFID Awards 2009 will attend a prize presentation ceremony on November 10, 2009, held in conjunction with the 9th GS1 Hong Kong Supply Chain Excellence Summit at JW Marriott Hotel Hong Kong, according to GS1 Hong Kong in a statement.
