Hutchison Telecom Hong Kong Holdings' 3 Hong Kong has launched one of Asia's first narrowband IoT (NB-IoT) roaming services.

NB-IoT is a low power wide area technology standard developed specifically for the internet of things.

In a statement, 3 Hong Kong said activating commercial NB-IoT roaming capability will allow enterprises opportunities to expand overseas with IoT applications and services.

Far EasTone and 3 Hong Kong entered an NB-IoT roaming agreement in March as part of their involvement in the Conexus Mobile Alliance. Now 3 Hong Kong is extending an offer for other Conexus members to form bilateral NB-IoT roaming partnerships.

3 Hong Kong completed deployment of its city-wide NB-IoT network last year in preparation for the commercial launch of NB-IoT applications.
