Artificial intelligence company Image Deep Systems has chosen Hong Kong as its base of operations, and plans to use the headquarters to serve its clients throughout the APAC region.

Image Deep Systems is focused on applying its AI platform for smart city, internet of things and manufacturing applications.

The company has decided to open an AI Communications Hub in the Spring of 2019 that will service Hong Kong and Southeast Asia. The hub is expected to employ up to 50 supporting personnel by the end of next year.

Image Deep Systems co-founder and head of business Martin Brecknock said Hong Kong was chosen due to its strategic position as a global city and its inclusion in the Greater Bay Area initiative.

“In the past year alone, Carrie Lam has announced a government funding strategy to promote and support innovation and technology within Hong Kong,” he said.

“ImageDeep will be participating within this program to develop novel proprietary technologies and the expansion of these solutions to the emerging economies.”

The company's co-founder and head of technology Niall Dorr added that Hong Kong has evolved over the past two years to a city that is embracing technology.

“At the fore is the rise of the fintech and regtech industries that is providing a pool of local talent that can be applied to the field of AI and the automation of processes outside of these traditional work areas,” he said.
