ASTRI and Cyberport are collaborating in an attempt to help Hong Kong AI and blockchain start-ups harness their potential.

The two government enterprises this week teamed up to hold the ASTRI Technovation Day, aimed at introducing ASTRI to the Cyberport tech startup community - particularly those in the AI, fintech, blockchain and health technology verticals.

Over 40 startups participated in the event, which also included information sessions on AI, blockchain applications and data analytics.

At the event, ASTRI CEO Hugh Chow said ASTRI and Cyberport share common goals of enabling blockchain and AI startups to thrive.

“Through this event, ASTRI seeks to provide a platform for innovation catalysts to connect with innovation drivers – helping the ecosystem to collectively maximize the impact of our endeavors,” he said.

While he acknowledged that it is unusual for an R&D institution to disseminate to other technology developers, Chow added that “ASTRI aims to act as a Technovation facilitator. As we all know, together we always achieve more.”

Cyberport’s Yan added that the event aligns with Cyberport’s key cluster focus of AI, blockchain and big data.

“This will be highly beneficial to Cyberport’s tech community in gaining inspiration to enhance their product development,” he said.

“With a community of over 1,000 digital tech companies, Cyberport is keen to work with partners like ASTRI to accelerate their growth and development to create impact on our society.  I look forward to more collaboration with ASTRI in the coming future.”
