AlipayHK reaches 1m users and unveils new slogan

AlipayHK has unveiled a new brand slogan to reflect its growing traction in the Hong Kong market.

Since launching in May 2017, Alipay has accumulated over 1 million users and reached 10,000 points of sales across the city.

"We hope to bring Hong Kong people to the new era of financial technology. Our new slogan ‘Embracing SMART Living’ reflects this,” commented Jennifer Tan, CEO of the ASPHK joint venture between Ant Financial and CK Hutchison.

“SMART represents five major elements: Secure, Multiple Use Cases, Anywhere, Reward and Technology. We believe these five elements allow people to use their electronic wallet worry-free."

CK Hutchison and Ant Financial formed a joint venture in September aimed at improving the AlipayHK service by leveraging CK Hutchison's network and promotion experience.

“[Some] 80% of the merchants in Hong Kong accept Alipay payments that are settled in both Hong Kong dollars and Renminbi,” Tan said “We will continue to expand the SME market and introduce more promotions like merchant discounts in the city.”

At present the users of the AlipayHK app are limited to local transactions. Tan said AlipayHK is working on the extensive use of the app outside Hong Kong so that local users can make payments in China, but she does not have an implementation schedule.

The ultimate goal is to make Alipay the most popular electronic wallet in Hong Kong and an integral part of daily life, she said.
