The Chinese University of Hong Kong has won the highest number of awards at the recent Challenge Cup Hong Kong regional final of the Hong Kong University Student Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition 2018.
Sixteen teems from the university swept up 18 awards at the regional competition, including two first class awards and two Innovation Awards n the innovation category.
More than 570 students from 19 tertiary institutions took part in the regional final, which was organized by the Hong Kong New Generation Cultural Association.
In the innovation stream, the first class and innovation award went to a team from CUHK's Department of Electronic Engineering for their assessment tool for child speech disorders based on intelligent speech technology.
Another first class award went to a team from the Department of Mechanical and Automation Engineering for the design of a biometric robot fish, while another innovation award and a second class award was granted to a team from the Department of Biomedical Engineering's School of Biomedical Science for a personalized therapeutic biochip design.
In the entrepreneurship category, a first class award went to a team from CUHK's Department of Biomedical Engineering, the Hong Kong Polytechnic University and the Open University of Hong Kong for a home-used pill manager solution.
This project will represent Hong Kong during the Chuang Qing Chun National Entrepreneurship Competition 2018 to be held in Hangzhou in November.
Other CUHK student projects recognized in the awards included a smart water dispenser for the visually impaired, a self-sanitizing door handle and a real-time computer-aided diagnosis system for cancer screening during colonoscopy.
